History of Eta Chapter
In December of 1906, the sisters of a local sorority Zeta Theta Delta of Illinois Wesleyan University took a momentous step when they responded to a letter from the Delta chapter of Sigma Kappa. On February 21, 1907, thirteen women were initiated into what has become the oldest continuously active Sigma Kappa chapter. Due to this great honor, Eta holds the original crest made by the founders of Sigma Kappa.
"Eta has a special bond of sisterhood which is evident by their positive attitudes and activities. Every sister works hard to maintain this representation of the chapter through her smiles and helpful manner. it is comfortning to be in an atmosphere full of warmth and love. Firesides best demonstrate Eta's strong sisterhood. These are scheduled randomly throughout the year. All sisters gather by the fireplace in the living room. Each sister know they can trust and confide in one another. The room is filled with warth and everyone leaves felling the love of our sisterhood," says the Sigma Kappa Triangle about Eta chapter in its Autumn 1990 issue.
Today, Eta is 100 active members strong and as initiated thousands of Sigma Kappas. We are proud to be the longest continuously-running chapter of Sigma Kappa in the country, and cherish our long history of success.
Over the years, Eta has show its standards of excellence in chapter activities and alumnae alike. Famous Eta members include Grand National President Lorah Monroe (1922-1926); author Lillian Budd; Kathy Larey Lewton winner of the esteemed Sigma Kappa Colby Award; producer and NBC anchorwoman Demetria Kalodimos; and Ann Marie Gentry, Vice President of financial management for the Bloomington region of Main Street Bank and Trust.
